Anchor Verses for Fathers

We asked a number of Fathers to choose a Scripture that helps ground them in their role as a father. An Anchor verse. Below are some great examples to choose from.

Provberbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

And he will turn
The hearts of the fathers to the children,
And the hearts of the children to their fathers,
Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse

‘Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’

Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

How to choose your Anchor Verse as a Father.

Very simply, it’s a verse that reminds you that you are belong to God, and grounds you when you think of your children or grandchildren.
Think: if I’m about to come off the rails as a father, what verse would remind me who I am and point me in the right direction?

It can also be freeing to just think of a seasonal Anchor Verse. For when you: have young children; are a grandfather for the first time; have a busy season at work; are going through difficulties; are putting your children through college, etc.

The verses above are all fantastic options, each suggested by a great father we know.

Write out your Anchor Verse and place it in your wallet
Use it as a platform on which to begin morning prayers
Pop it on as a wallpaper on your phone
Share it with others, including your family and encourage them to have an Anchor Verse for the season of life they are in.
